This\u00a0February<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0issue we want to share a few examples of where dentistry has gone beyond oral health by connecting patients to general health and\u00a0SAVED THEIR LIVES!!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The idea for this issue came about when watching a film about the life of famous musician James Brown on Netflix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After doing a Google search to check other facts about James Brown, we stumbled upon an article which reported that James Brown\u2019s dentist basically saved his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOn December 23, 2006, Brown became very ill and arrived at his dentist\u2019s office in\u00a0Atlanta, Georgia, several hours late. His appointment was for dental implant work. During that visit, Brown\u2019s dentist observed that he looked \u201cvery bad \u2026 weak and dazed\u201d. Instead of performing the work, the dentist advised Brown to see a doctor right away about his medical condition\u201d \u2013\u00a0Wikipedia<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n James Brown\u2019s dentist could see he needed to make the right call and focus on his overall health. This is something we all do as dental professionals even when its not visually obvious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Searching further for more examples of dental professionals saving lives,\u00a0we came across this story \u2026\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The story of Sandy Wexler really stuck out! After the dental professional spent a great deal of time on the external screening, Sandy asked her dentist \u201cIs there something abnormal?\u201d The dentist shared with Sandy that there was an enlarged lymphoid on Sandy\u2019s neck. Sandy made an appointment to see her physician and she was diagnosed with cancer.
